TD Canada Trust $100 000 Go Green Challenge
Everyone says they care about the environment. But do you have a big idea that could actually improve urban sustainability?
If you do, submit it to the $100,000 Go Green Challenge. We’re looking for ideas that can help urban communities coexist with the ecosystems around them. These could include initiatives related to –
* Public transit
* Community design
* Energy conservation
* Naturalizing urban spaces
Or anything else that could make your community more sustainable for the future.
To participate in the Challenge, you need to –
* Organize a team of two or more students
* Find a Faculty Sponsor
* Complete and submit an entry form
* Submit an essay of no more than 4,000 words or 20 pages outlining your idea
Criteria
Your submission will –
* Be original. Other academic and non-academic work that supports your submission must be referenced
* Be viable, but we encourage ideas that are forward-looking
* Integrate elements of environmentally-based community design. These may include, but are not limited to: transportation/transit issues, energy efficiency, water conservation, ecosystem management, air quality, and development planning
* Describe what structures/mechanisms must be instituted to support your ideas. For example, what changes in regulation, taxation and spending structures, technical standards and/or technology would be required?
* Be up to a maximum of 4,000 words, plus supporting documents (photographs, charts, original website links, etc.) for a maximum total entry size of 20 pages
Prizes
Four (4) prizes of $25,000 each will be awarded to the four (4) teams that submit the best proposals. Each prize will be awarded to all student members of the team, jointly.
Eligibility
This competition is open to teams of students from any department at an approved Canadian university or college. Students may be undergraduate or graduate, full-time or part-time. Teams can be composed of students from one department or across several departments, but must all be from the same school.
* Minimum team size is two students
* All submissions must be reviewed and signed by a member of faculty from a Canadian university or college. This person should include their name, address, email address, telephone number and department
* Students must be enrolled in a full-time or part-time undergraduate or graduate program at a Canadian university or college as of September 1, 2008
* Submissions must be sent by email attachment in either Microsoft Word 2000 (or later) or Adobe PDF (version 2002 or later) format
* Submissions will not be returned
Deadline
Submissions will be accepted from November 1, 2008 until January 16, 2009. Winners will be announced in March, 2009.
