Suzuki Foundation Releases Scorecard on Controversial VANOC Claim of “Carbon Neutral” Olympics

The David Suzuki Foundation released its report reviewing VANOC’s oft-stated claim that the 2010 Vancouver Olympics will be the first ever carbon neutral Olympics ever staged. While the Suzuki found many things to praise in VANOC’s efforts, including measuring GHC emissions for seven years (from bid to Games), the LEED Gold standard design of venues and the Athletes Village, and other efficiency efforts, Suzuki concludes that the 2010 efforts only amount to a “Bronze” performance.

Greetings and Happy New Year! Walking the Talk is kicking off 2010 with an exciting announcement. The group has just been formally designated the new United Nations Regional Centre for Expertise for Education on Sustainable Development (RCE) for the British Columbia (North Cascadia) region. Dr. David Zandvliet of SFU spearheaded this designation on behalf of Walking the Talk, and he received the official certificate of designation from the United Nations University on January 10, 2010.

Climate Action Program Launches New Youth Education Partnership

Victoria, BC –

The Capital Regional District’s Climate Action Program has launched a
new Youth Climate Education Partnership for 2010. The partnership will
work with The BC Sustainable Energy Association, the Sierra Club of
BC, and the BC Campus Climate Network to provide climate change
education to more than 3,600 students across the region.
The CRD Climate Action Program was established in 2009 and acts as a
